Veterans Day & A Green Smoothie Obsession

Today, November 11 aka Veterans Day, I set out for a run with a purpose. The goal - run the 4 miles from my house to Arlington National Cemetery and pay my respects to the countless military men and women who have fought for our country and those that paid the ultimate price. I think we should pay tribute to those that have served or currently serve in the armed services everyday, so today and everyday, THANK YOU.

I continued on with my run through D.C. and did a running tour of monuments. D.C. really is such an awesome city. And with a great weather like this, it made the rest of the run pretty easy because of the scenery.

7 miles later, all I wanted was one of my newest obsessions - a green smoothie. I've been fighting this for a while now - I couldn't imagine greenery in my smoothie. I thought it would make it icky, smelly and just plain gross. After I over purchased kale last week, I decided to give a kale smoothie a try...and am I glad I did. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. I seriously started making these on Monday and had one every day this week. The best part? Its a super filling smoothie that powered me through the morning.

Combine a handful of fresh kale, almond mile, ice, banana (fresh or frozen) and a teaspoon of flaxseed and a tablespoon of peanut butter. Sprinkle some cinnamon in there for more flavor. And viola - an awesome green smoothie! And I swear you don't even taste the kale - the green color is the only thing that gives it a way.

  2. KG- i swear she isn't as crazy as she looks! it tastes more like a sandwich with a peanut butter and banana. Too rich for me, so I prefer my regular: coconut milk, strawberries, banana, kale and spinach!
